Well, friends — 16 months after I got the news and announced it, my TEDx talk on Last Wishes has finally been posted. Pretty sure it doesn’t always take that long, but funny thing… delays happen! Better late than never has been my motto for as long as I can remember, so there you go. Perfect timing.
The long stretch has given me time to process how it all went. Which was not as expected, to put it mildly. Not how I wanted it to go, more precisely.
Let’s just say that five weeks of fairly SUPER INTENSE writing, editing, memorizing and practicing didn’t do much for a relaxed mindset when the day came. You can hear that story here, the video I taped a few weeks later. It was… can we say a bit of a disappointment (or worse if you don’t count actual tragedies in life). Putting it in perspective has been my task.
All I’ve ever wanted is to get my little idea out into the world, and see if it can’t take hold somewhere. Grow from a little seed into something bigger, and widespread, and eventually life and culture-changing. Definitely delusions of grandeur.
I can’t help it. I see a world where if we all left juicy last wishes for our people, our experience of mortality would be a little bit better. There would be less fear, anxiety, dread, and there would be actual, bona fide JOY — even in the sadness.
Here’s my case for that on TEDx.
