No one wants to talk about death and funerals on Valentines’ Day. Not even me, who has practically no boundaries on the topic.
But what is apropos, and not antithetical, is love. Because when someone we’ve loved with all our heart is no longer here, that love has not gone away. In fact, it’s likely multiplied. That kind of love needs to be expressed, it can’t just sit there inside of you driving you into deeper and deeper sadness.
Write your beloved a letter, draw them a picture, make them a pie, make a donation in their name, go to their favorite place and feel them there. The point is to take some action that allows your feelings of love to be expressed. It really works. And though not everyone might agree, I’m a firm believer that they know and appreciate your actions from the other side. And send you love in return.
